REDUCTION Year 3 & 4
This unit is aimed at showing the children how to effectively reduce the amount of rubbish they have in the household by; looking at alternative packaging when purchasing products - talking about the sustainable use of natural resources through recycling, and briefly about reusing and composting. |
REUSING Year 3 & 4
This unit shows the children how to further reduce their waste by reusing products and packaging and also by buying longer lasting items. It also points how groups in the community are able to reuse e.g. Salvation Army. |

RECYCLING Year 5 & 6
This unit follows on from the previous units and gives the children a format for setting up their own recycling centre at their home. It emphasises the importance of sustaining natural resources for our future generations. |
COMPOSTING Year 5 & 6
During this unit the children are shown how to make compost. Each child will make compost in a milk bottle and will be encouraged to look after it until it is ready for them to plant seeds in. |

RESOURCE SUSTAINABILITY
Year 7 & 8
Again the children revisit recycling but at this level they each complete their own unit of work on various topics from - the sustainable pathway - to recycling - to the Life Cycle of products – Hazardous Waste - to looking into the future and how we could set up an environment with Zero Waste. |
WATER Year 7 & 8
This unit is designed to look at water getting to the house, how we use it in the house and what happens to it after we have used it. There is also a section on Stormwater and water conservation. |
